Endarkened Alchemy as Ancestral Listening, Spiritual Co-Writing, and Educational Liberation

Wed, April 8, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 306B

Abstract

The historical and contemporary significance of Endarkened Alchemists—that is, Black Women Educators who engage in ethics of risk, politicized and intersectional care, and othermothering (Beauboeuf-Lafontant, 2002; Dillard, 2022; Pham et. al, 2024) and provide Black Scholars with the knowledge, skills, and strategies to survive systemic antiblackness (Author, 2023, 2025)—has been understudied and underutilized (Farinde-Wu et al., 2023; Gist et al., 2018; Muhammad et al., 2020; Obaizamomwan-Hamilton, 2023). Contributing to research on Black people’s educational and schooling experiences, my qualitative study deeply explored how I, as a Black Woman Educator, embodied Endarkened Alchemy (Author, 2025b) in service of disrupting systemic antiblackness, addressing anti-Black racism (Author, 2023, 2025), and (re)humanizing Black Scholars and Educators.
