Teaching with Cariño: Exploring Teachers’ Perceptions of Marginalized Students and Instructional Practices

Wed, April 8, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Petree Hall C

Abstract

The qualitative phenomenological study focuses on capturing the essence of high school history & social science teachers in urban school settings, providing Black and Latinx students with instruction. By capturing the essence of how teacher beliefs and expectations may influence instructional decisions, research, policy, and future professional development may better address cultural responsiveness and equitable learning experiences. The insights gained can illuminate how teachers' perceptions shape curriculum choices and pedagogy.
