Adapting a Self-Report Bullying Victimization Measure for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disability

Fri, April 10, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Petree Hall C

Abstract

The Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing (AERA, 2014) endorsed empirically analyzing respondents’ response processes to gain evidence regarding the fit between the construct and the individual’s actual response process. This mixed-methods pilot study integrates qualitative cognitive interviewing (CI) methodology to assess content validity with quantitative psychometrics to determine the structural validity of an adaptation to a bullying victimization survey for youth with Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD): the University of Illinois Victimization Scale (UIVS; Espelage & Holt, 2001). Therefore, the study aims to comprehensively analyze the feasibility and usability in tandem with a psychometric analysis. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and CI will provide ongoing test development for the study. Limitations and future directions for research will be disseminated.
