Thu, April 9, 2:15 to 3:45pm PDT (2:15 to 3:45pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Petree Hall C

Abstract

This study examines the experiences of Global South international students (GSISs) at predominantly White institutions (PWIs) in the Southeastern U.S., focusing on how historical, social, and policy contexts shape their educational journeys. Using postcolonial frameworks, this study examines GSISs’ academic, cultural, and bureaucratic experiences through interviews. Preliminary findings reveal racialized barriers, policy-related stress, and limited support. By connecting past injustices to present challenges, this research highlights pathways for more equitable policies and practices. Centering GSISs’ voices highlights how understanding histories can guide future-oriented strategies, fostering inclusive environments and supporting thriving futures for diverse learners.
