Reframing Presence: Male Teachers of Color with Disabilities in the Social Context of Education

Fri, April 10, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 303A

Abstract

Drawing on personal narrative and critical disability studies, I highlight how lived experience with a stuttering disability shapes pedagogy, advocacy, and relationships with students. By centering disability alongside race and gender, this talk reframes the presence of male teachers of color not only as representational but also as transformative. Ultimately, it argues that the intersectional experiences of male teachers of color with disabilities expand possibilities for inclusive, justice-oriented educational practices.
