Abstract

My dissertation research project investigates a North-South Higher Education Partnership by looking at a program called CARP (Climate Adaptation Research Program) established as a result of universities’ partnership in five global regions (the US, Africa, Latin America, New Zealand, and the Caribbean). It was funded by USAID and uses a “co-creation” concept—a participatory approach to leadership and management. I am trying to understand how the co-creation approach was employed and what forms of power dynamics resulted, while learning about challenges and successes. The objectives are to fill the research gap of understanding how participatory approaches are used in North-South Higher Education partnerships and how they are shifting the narrative from asymmetric partnerships to more symmetric ones.
