Ethnic Studies High School Teacher Reflections on Pedagogy, Curriculum, and Impact

Fri, April 10, 3:45 to 5:15pm PDT (3:45 to 5:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 402A

Abstract

The presenters will also discuss how teaching the course impacted them personally and professionally. The presenters discussed that learning about Ethnic Studies Pedagogy was key in reframing their own teaching in the classroom. Lastly, the presenters will also share some artifacts of student work from the past three years that highlight the impact of taking the dual enrollment course. Specifically, the teachers will highlight the impact that learning about the racialization of People of Color helped them understand current socio-political tensions. The teachers will also highlight some art “loteria” projects students created, where they reflected on the impact of the course on their own identities.
