Abstract

What does it mean to exist as an AANAPISI at an under-resourced urban-serving campus that commodifies racialized and other types of “difference?” UW Tacoma made history at UW in 2022 when we obtained the first MSI designation and funding in the history of the UW Tri-Campus system. We are specifically situated at an urban-serving campus that serves one of the most ethnically and racially diverse student populations in the nation. Our AAPI student population specifically includes several underrepresented ethnic groups, especially Pacific Islander and Southeast Asian American students from refugee backgrounds; most are Pell-eligible.
