Abstract

Given the current, national political climate, early career scholars should be cultivated and protected in safe places to do their work without fear of retribution. This is especially true if diversity, equity and inclusion are scholarship areas for new faculty researchers. An institutional consideration is the challenge of hiring and supporting diverse faculty with diverse interests. The reality of what is publicly presented versus how an institution supports diversity and equity are two divergent experiences. This panel presents a unique case study of how a HSI in the southwest region in a School of Education created an environment promoting equity and multiculturalism. Through faculty leadership, curriculum and community engagement initiatives, this program mentors early-career scholars.
