Thu, April 9, 2:15 to 3:45pm PDT (2:15 to 3:45pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

This study is a documentation of a university collaboration with Racquet Up Detroit, a MSI after school program that provides college access mentoring, academic enrichment, and access to racquetball, an elite sport that has provided a longstanding pathway to athletic scholarships. The collaboration centers around a faculty team of color that provides mentoring for families exploring examination high school access and college access mentoring. The youth in the program have demonstrated post pandemic struggles in literacy. The collaboration has included intensive tutoring efforts on behalf of secondary pre-service teachers to support the examination high school pathway to college. Field note documentation of workshops informed about enhanced family knowledge of characteristics of high quality high schools that support equitable college access opportunities. Interview documentation with program directors inform about their concerns about student success and willingness to adjust the parameters of intensive tutoring programming with the university program.
