Summer Literacy Interventions and Student Attitudes Toward Reading

Wed, April 8, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Petree Hall C

Abstract

Much attention has been placed on developing effective literacy interventions that address content such as morphological awareness, word identification, spelling abilities, reading comprehension, known vocabulary, and writing abilities (Brady & Mason, 2024). Still, there is a lack of emphasis placed on developing positive student attitudes toward reading. With this in mind, the current study aims to address the effects of summer literacy interventions on student attitudes toward reading, as well as academic and recreational specific attitudes. Researchers used a pre and post survey design to assess student reading attitudes before and after the Camp Curious Summer Literacy Intervention (CCSLI). The results of these surveys have yet to be analyzed.
