VR as a Digital Pathway: Empowering Brazilian Mothers through English Language Learning and Career Preparation

Sat, April 11, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Petree Hall C

Abstract

Many immigrants come to the United States seeking a better life, and a large number choose Florida as their home. Achieving this goal often depends on acquiring sufficient English proficiency to communicate effectively. For adult English language learner (ELLs) mothers, this journey is particularly challenging due to caregiving duties, financial limitations, and restricted access to education. This qualitative narrative study uses andragogy, social constructivism, motivational and immersive Virtual Reality theory to explore how VR tools can enhance English language learning and career readiness among Brazilian immigrant mothers in Florida.
