Navigating AI Implementation in Public Agencies: Regulatory Compliance, Readiness Assessment, and Strategic Deployment

Sat, April 11, 3:45 to 5:15pm PDT (3:45 to 5:15pm PDT), InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, Floor: 5th Floor, Hancock Park West

Abstract

This session presents a comprehensive framework for implementing generative AI in public agencies, drawing from work with postsecondary institutions, state education agencies, and workforce organizations. Presenters will share how the Data Integration Support Center (DISC) will explore six critical implementation phases: foundational knowledge-building, regulatory landscape navigation, quantitative readiness assessments, facilitated use case development, strategic planning aligned with organizational capacity, and security-first compliance frameworks. The presentation addresses unique public sector challenges including inconsistent state regulations, FERPA/HIPAA compliance requirements, and constituent data protection while demonstrating how systematic readiness evaluation prevents premature implementation. Attendees will examine real-world applications and learn how structured assessment rubrics guide agencies from concept to operational AI systems while maintaining public trust and regulatory adherence.
