Enhancing Cross-Sector Alignment with AI: Mapping Math Skills Across Education and Workforce

Sat, April 11, 3:45 to 5:15pm PDT (3:45 to 5:15pm PDT), InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, Floor: 5th Floor, Hancock Park West

Abstract

This study investigates how artificial intelligence (AI) can assess alignment among K–12 mathematics curricula, postsecondary coursework, and workforce skill demands. The project develops and tests an AI-based tool trained on state-specific curricular and labor market data to detect coherence and gaps in key mathematical concepts, skills, and practices. Combining AI-driven analysis with expert review and stakeholder input, the study informs curriculum design and policy decisions. Findings illuminate how AI can strengthen state and regional alignment efforts, foster cross-sector collaboration, and ensure mathematics education better reflects workforce needs. The project demonstrates an innovative model that integrates human expertise and machine learning to advance educational coherence, college readiness, and career preparation.
