Sat, April 11, 3:45 to 5:15pm PDT (3:45 to 5:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

Student employment has become a prevalent phenomenon in higher education. Current literature on student employment tends to examine its impact on educational outcomes, such as academic performance and persistence. However, how student employment shapes the college experience remains understudied. Using CIRP data from 2,445 college students, this study examines the relationship between student employment and student engagement. The findings indicate that students who work on campus and those who work off campus differ significantly in academic preparation and access to financial resources. Furthermore, on-campus jobs can positively predict student engagement, whereas off-campus employment does not have a significant impact.
