• In Event: Re-remembering the Past and Envisioning the Future to Mobilize the Present: Community Organizers, Activist Scholars, and Funders Connecting Movements for Educational Justice

Abstract

Funder presenter #1 is the president and CEO of a regional foundation that funds community-rooted educational transformation that challenges racial inequities.
This participant will discuss strategies for advancing student-centered public education in the current political climate. She will describe how an equitable society starts with an equitable education system, sharing wisdom gleaned from years of experience as a partnership builder, seasoned administrator, school-based practitioner, and community-driven leader.

Funder presenter #2 is a national program officer for an educational justice foundation that supports grassroots organizing groups as well as policy-oriented research done in support of movement building.
This participant will draw from the history of foundation funding for educational and racial justice organizing to highlight lessons that apply to today’s crisis. Drawing on his foundation’s support for holistic systems of support for low-income children of color, the presenter will expand the vision for educational justice to be broader and bolder.
