Abstract: This paper describes the use of Photovoice methodology to investigate the impact of a study abroad experience on participant conceptions of and beliefs about nature and the use of natural settings for teaching and learning. Rooted in experiential learning theory, this study abroad program provided an immersive experience emphasizing deep ecology and the use of nature and the outdoors for teaching and learning. Over a three-week study abroad, students experienced the foundations of friluftsliv and outdoor education at various sites throughout Norway. Pre- and post-data was collected through the use of Photovoice methodology and nature journaling to identify how student conceptions of and beliefs about nature and implications for teaching and learning were impacted.
