Employing Gerda Lerner's stage model of women's history research as the theoretical framework and adopting a mixed-methods approach utilizing content analysis and visual grammar theory,this study examines the basic characteristics and historical period variations in the presentation of women images in Chinese state-compiled Senior High School History Textbooks . The findings reveal that images depicting women constitute merely 14% of all person-related images in state-compiled senior high school history textbooks.The modes of representation are limited,with women narratives predominantly instrumental.women images differ across historical periods: those in ancient history appear predominantly as named individuals, while those in modern and contemporary history frequently appear within group images, positioned peripherally within the visual construction, conveying diminished expressive significance.
