Establishing a Global Community of Engaged Virtual Teaching: An Innovative Approach to Virtual Clinical Preparation (Stage 1, 8:17 AM)

Abstract

This study considers the ethical challenges faced by program developers leading a virtual engagement program aimed at community engaged teaching and global citizenship that includes communities around the world. Applying the frameworks for community engaged teaching and ethical global citizenship education, this qualitative study uses interviews, focus groups, document analysis, and program observation to consider the particular challenges in global community engagement. Findings reveal the challenges of ethical virtual global engagement as well as the value of the frameworks for addressing ethical challenges. Implications for ethical university international community engagement, alternative clinical preparation, and virtual programming are discussed
