Abstract

The purpose of this mixed methods exploratory study was to investigate the effectiveness of AI-embedded lessons into graduate level teacher education courses at a mid-sized university in Southern California that focused on emerging trends into digital teaching and learning. Data was collected using pre-and post test surveys and qualitative open ended questions. Additional data was collected through instructor-led discussions of student experience in using the tools in fieldwork observations and opportunities to incorporate such tools in clinical practice and intern experiences. Students gained an understanding of the usage, benefits, and challenges posed by these AI technologies in K-12 classroom settings. This article suggests effective strategies for using AI to enhance teacher candidates' competencies and knowledge, enabling them to become effective teachers.
