How do elementary mathematics teachers apply Bloom’s Taxonomy when designing digitally enhanced instructional activities? (Stage 1, 7:50 AM)

Abstract

As digital technologies rapidly evolve, one question persists: How are they used in daily teaching? To explore this, we formed professional learning communities of mathematics teachers to integrate digital tools. We created the Bloom-Aligned Digital Instruction Planner (BADIP), based on Bloom’s Taxonomy, to support teachers’ pedagogical and content knowledge. Each group designed math lessons using BADIP and items from a digital learning platform. Our qualitative, multi-case study involved 130 teachers from 26 primary schools in Luxembourg. Analysis showed most groups focused on Remember, Understand, and Apply. Teachers mainly used digital items for practice and monitoring, rarely addressing Evaluation or Creation. Technical difficulties were common, underscoring the need for strong technological knowledge to support pedagogical integration.
