Celebrating 10 years of JULTR: Living Our Values as Urban Ed Stakeholders [The How is the What] (Stage 2, 4:53 PM)

Wed, April 8, 3:45 to 5:15pm PDT (3:45 to 5:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Exhibit Hall A - Stage 2

Abstract

The Journal of Urban Teaching, Learning, and Research—produced by the ULTR SIG— plays a critical role in disseminating the latest innovations in urban education and urban educational research. In our ten years, we have moved from a paper journal to an open access format that supports and mentors graduate students and novice scholars. In the current educational landscape of increased commodification of scholarship and dwindling academic freedom, academic publishing is precarious. JULTR chooses to “live our values” as critical urban ed scholars in constructing our imagined future for the journal. This paper will expand upon our policies and practices that imagine a future where labor is valued and scholars are supported. Topics will include our mentoring program for novice scholars.
