Abstract

This paper is based on the data of the Chinese Family Panel Studies in 2018 and 2022. Empirical analysis finds that educational anxiety has a significant inhibitory effect on the reproductive intention of the population of reproductive age. Heterogeneity analysis reveals that among reproductive-aged females, the decline in fertility willingness is more significant in regions with strong Confucian cultural influence, provinces with key college entrance examinations, and rural areas. Further research indicates that educational anxiety also exerts a significant negative effect on the willingness to have another child among married individuals with children, revealing the persistence and pervasiveness of educational anxiety's impact on fertility decisions.
