Unlocking Future Women STEM Workforce: Cultivating Girls' Interests in Computing, AI, and Cybersecurity (Stage 2, 10:44 AM)

Wed, April 8, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Exhibit Hall A - Stage 2

Abstract

The purpose of this project is to develop, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of university-supported Girls Computing and Cybersecurity Enrichment Clubs for three groups of young girls: ages 4-6, ages 7-14, and ages 15-18. The goals are to: 1) empower young girls and boost their interest and confidence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), 2) combat gender stereotypes allowing girls to see themselves as competent in any career path they choose, and helping parents to reflect on their traditional beliefs, 3) create role models, particularly in computing, AI, and cybersecurity, to help young girls envision themselves in similar roles, and 4) Bridge the access gap by providing free educational opportunities for girls from underserved communities.
