A Study of Chinese College Students' Identification with Traditional Chinese Culture Research Objective (Stage 3, 1:59 PM)

Abstract

Chinese educators are reviving traditional Chinese culture, and the government has introduced policies to support this effort. Promoting traditional culture is considered essential for universities as they prepare socialist leaders grounded in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor values. This study examines how university students identify with traditional culture. Based on two large surveys with nearly 5,000 respondents, it finds that while emotional attachment is strong, understanding is weaker. Personal traits influenced cultural identification most, followed by school, family, and social settings. The study shows a gap between emotional identification and practice and urges universities to better integrate cultural education to deepen understanding and commitment.
