Session Type: Symposium
This symposium highlights the critical role of school counselor competence in effectively integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and technology into counseling practice. Through four research-driven papers, the session examines school counselors’ evolving digital proficiency, ethical preparedness, and readiness to use AI tools to enhance student support. Topics include trends in technology adoption, AI training in pre-service programs, use of AI like ChatGPT to strengthen interventions, and national data on counselor attitudes and skills. Emphasizing the need for professional competence, the session underscores how well-prepared counselors can leverage AI to improve equity, efficiency, and student outcomes. A discussant and panel discussion will address practical implications, advancing the profession’s ability to navigate technological change while upholding ethical standards and student well-being.
