Session Type: Symposium
Curriculum materials can play an important role in supporting teachers in shifting their instruction by providing a concrete image of what is possible in classrooms and offering instructional strategies. Yet curriculum enactment should look different in every classroom as teachers need to be responsive to their students and local contexts. Consequently, it is important for teachers to adapt science instructional materials. In this session, we will share findings from four different projects that are engaged in work focused on science curriculum adaptation. Following the presentations, our discussant, who brings a state-level policy and practitioner perspective, will pose a set of questions for both the presenters and audience to encourage reflection on critical issues for the field.
