Educational Policy, Reforms, and Change in the Middle East and North Africa Towards Social Justice, Equity, and Political Inclusion

Thu, April 9, 2:15 to 3:45pm PDT (2:15 to 3:45pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 304A

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium examines the ways in which MENA's educational reform and policy reflect enduring political, social, and historical complexity. Contributors analyze how, in environments influenced by authoritarianism, war, privatization, and inequality, education becomes both a site of crisis and a platform for resistance, drawing from a forthcoming edited volume. With an emphasis on inclusion, leadership, curriculum, and conflict resilience, the presentations provide critical and comparative analyses of reform initiatives in nations like Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Tunisia, and Turkey. This symposium reimagines education as a means of promoting justice, civic agency, and transformative leadership in the face of changing regional and global dynamics by establishing MENA as a contributor to global policy discourse.
