Reimagining the Future of Bilingual Teacher Education: Community and Field Visions, Policies, Pedagogies, and Praxis

Fri, April 10, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 515B

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

This poster session brings together nine papers that collectively reimagine bilingual teacher education, highlighting critical pedagogies, multilingualism, and intersectional approaches. The session centers content area language and literacy instruction while addressing policy, identity, and community engagement. Presenters examine topics such as translanguaging, heritage language teaching, early childhood bilingualism, Asian language education, and disability studies. Organized around three themes — reimagining bilingual teacher knowledge, deepening our understanding of language and inclusion, and community-rooted pedagogies — this session offers research-based practices and actionable insights. Participants will engage in interactive dialogue and leave with models for preparing bilingual teachers committed to justice and culturally and linguistically sustaining education.
