Session Type: Symposium
Despite the evidence of effectiveness of social and emotional learning (SEL) in the United States (U.S.), it is largely unknown if Tier 1 SEL is indeed accessible to all students who encounter it. An estimated 8 million school-aged children and adolescents in the U.S. have learning differences, or variations in how they access and experience school, and receive most of their instruction in classrooms alongside their neurotypical peers. This symposium presents results from a five-year, four study investigation that defines the barriers to and facilitators of Tier 1 SEL in school –based settings for students with learning differences in the U.S. Implications for SEL design, implementation, and research will be discussed.
