Session Type: Symposium
The goal of this session is to bring together scholars engaged in work to support culturally sustaining pedagogy (CSP) in science education across various contexts. The presenters’ different perspectives on CSP include considering the history of science education in relation to CSP, the ways in which the Nature of Science and CSP relate to one another as well as how K-12 educators can be supported in achieving CSP in their practice. After the presentations, we will engage in a dialogic exchange focused on answering the question: What are actionable next steps we can take to achieve CSP in science classrooms within K-12 classrooms given the realities that exist in schools today?
