Imagining a future of belonging and community-centered instruction through high school redesign

Fri, April 10, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE, Floor: Gold Level, Gold 3

Session Type: Roundtable Session

Abstract

Districts are facing declining enrollments, forcing them to make hard choices about how to respond. Some districts have taken this as an opportunity to rethink how they organize their learning environments to better serve student needs, both now and in the future. These redesigned schools attend to the people in and around them, creating spaces for families, staff, and the broader community to own a shared vision anchored in what students need: relationship-centered environments that prioritize a sense of belonging alongside meaningful, coherent, and community-connected instruction. In this Symposium, researchers, technical assistance providers, and teacher educators will provide examples of reimagined schools and unpack the resources, structures, and practices that supported their redesign.
