Abstract

An emergent line of research has begun to investigate a critical equity issue in K–12 bilingual education: multilingual learners (MLs) with disabilities’ limited access to bilingual programs (Cioè-Peña, 2021; Kangas, 2017; Sánchez López, 2022). Yet, this research remains in nascent stages. Drawing from critical theoretical perspectives, the studies in this symposium expand this line of inquiry by examining access to bilingual programs for MLs with disabilities across a variety of state contexts. The symposium underscores the importance of expanding access to bilingual programs for all MLs, including those with disabilities.
