Session Type: Symposium
This symposium explores how culturally responsive mathematics education and social and emotional learning (SEL) can inform the design of equity-centered educational technology products that also support teachers’ pedagogical practice. Presenters introduce five essential characteristics of culturally responsive math instruction and guidelines for advancing SEL, demonstrating their application in ed tech contexts. Through research-practice partnerships, the session highlights innovative product features that integrate these principles to support more humanizing and just math learning experiences. Together, these presentations envision a future of teaching and learning that unforget histories of exclusion in math education while cultivating transformative digital environments for teachers and learners. The session invites reflection on how ed tech can disrupt deficit narratives and reimagine teaching through liberatory design frameworks.
