Responding to the Void: QuantCrit Analyses of Queer and Trans Outcomes across Four Large-Scale Surveys

Sat, April 11, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), Westin Bonaventure, Floor: Lobby Level, Beaudry A

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

Federal, state, and local legislations are stripping education funding and targeting queer and trans (QT) people. Executive orders and legislation have defunded and dismantled the Department of Education, reducing the National Center for Education Statistics to a handful of staff, shuttering its many projects. These steep cuts and extreme changes have created a void of QT data and have devastating impacts on data-informed decision-making for QT student success. The objective of our symposium is to respond to the QT education void with empirical research from four national surveys conducted at institutions of higher education that collect students’ SOGI demographics. We designed this session to generate insights that will empower policymakers, researchers, educators, and practitioners to improve conditions for QT students.
