Session Type: Invited Roundtable
Initiated at the 1997 Annual Meeting in Chicago, the 2026 session of “The Continuation of Conversations with Senior Scholars on Advancing Research and Professional Development Related to Black Education” covers 30 years with the 2020 session cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, this will be number 29 for this popular and widely heralded series. The 28th session was successfully held in April 2025, in Denver.
We were granted Presidential Session status in1999 in Montreal as a Presidential Session. We have some of the most notable education scholars in the country participating heading tables as topic discussion leaders. In 1997, we started with 12 tables and now we will again have 21 tables for 2026. Last year, we added a new table addressing AI in education and in educational research. This year we added a table to focus on success in Academe. Over the years, we have averaged approximately 10-12 participants per table, not counting topic leaders. We have had as many as an estimated 300 participants attending the session. A photo shot is attached showing a broad view from last year’s session.
