Participatory Action Research Projects at Hispanic-Serving Institutions: Co-creating HSI-PAR to Foster Servingness and Community-Centered Transformation

Sat, April 11, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE, Floor: 2nd Floor, Platinum F

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This session explores the relationship between Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) and Participatory Action Research (PAR). The authors of the five papers highlight how HSI-PAR can foster the generation and dissemination of co-created knowledge, cultivating awareness and catalyzing transformative change in higher education. The co-discussants will facilitate a discussion by drawing attention to the similarities and distinctions among the five papers, illustrating how PAR at HSIs can serve as both a methodological and “servingness” tool, as well as a practice to further support Latine/x students. The session aligns to this year’s AERA theme as the papers represent the voices of multigenerational collectives who aim to reshape the future of HSIs by centering community voices and through humanizing methodological approaches.
