Caring Leadership Amidst the Chaos: Elevating Care as Resistance, Intervention, and Imperative

Sat, April 11, 11:45am to 1:15pm PDT (11:45am to 1:15pm PDT), Westin Bonaventure, Floor: Level 2, Echo Park

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

School, district, and state leaders play key roles in shaping educational experiences for students and working conditions for staff. This symposium gathers scholars together to imagine an educational future that is caring, equity-oriented, and unapologetically affirming for all students and staff in a school system. In this symposium, scholars of caring leadership will consider how educational leaders can enact caring practices amidst the current political chaos. Through an engaging discussion of what caring leadership is and what caring leadership could be, this symposium seeks to elevate care as a form of resistance to hegemonic, racist, patriarchal structures; an intervention to dehumanizing school systems; and as an imperative in moving towards educational systems that are just and rigorous for all.
