Session Type: Symposium
Interprofessional collaboration (IPC) is increasingly important in professional fields dealing with complex problems, most notably healthcare. Interprofessional education has become the key pedagogy to developing healthcare professionals for IPC.
This symposium will examine conceptual frameworks that may be used to design and study interprofessional learning environments, including the construct of “professional inclusivity”.
First, we will discuss why interprofessionalism emerged in the health professions. Then, we will provide a brief overview of approaches to studying interprofessionalism and the novel construct of “professional inclusivity”, a conceptual framework for examining interprofessional learning environments. We will also reflect on findings from a study on professional inclusivity while considering how other social constructs might be utilized to study interprofessionalism and interprofessional learning.
