Session Type: Symposium
This session presents a “first look” at a new transdisciplinary, intergenerational book about Black faculty in the language sciences. As a collective autobiography, it adds to the slim archives on Black faculty and serves as a guidebook to obtaining faculty positions, building sustainable careers, and preparing for leadership positions. Each of the five authors will present on the objectives, theoretical frameworks, methods, and results of their research chapters, followed by discussant critique and audience Q&A. Talking Faculty is one part of a long-term vision for the future of Black linguists in the U.S., that includes the development of a new journal and special interest group devoted to Black language and culture.
