Session Type: Symposium
This symposium highlights the Virtual Reality (VR) Chicana and Latina Testimonio Project, an interdisciplinary, community-based initiative rooted in Stockton, California. Grounded in Chicana feminist thought and testimonio as an anticolonial method, the project documents resistance by Chicana and Latina educators, organizers, and cultural workers often excluded from dominant narratives. Through immersive VR and archival research, the project centers “movidas”—everyday acts of resistance—and uplifts local histories of struggle and resilience. Undergraduate researchers are key collaborators in collecting, curating, and producing testimonios, making this an intergenerational endeavor. Presentations examine the project’s theoretical framework, student praxis, ethical approaches to storytelling in VR, and public engagement. This session offers a model for youth-engaged, community-rooted, and technologically innovative research in Chicanx/Latinx Studies.
