Session Type: Symposium
This symposium articulates new ways of theorizing and methodologically operationalizing aesthetics across a spectrum of literacy contexts, where aesthetics conveys attention to both what texts or participants say as well as how they say it--the artistic effects of their messages. We present studies focused on a diversity of populations (e.g., pre-service teachers, youth literary scholars, cosplaying fans). Further, we bring together scholars from multiple institutions and draw on different methodological traditions. These studies take up aesthetics in order to contribute to discussions about teacher education, English language arts, critical media literacy, and social justice education.
