Session Type: Symposium
This symposium examines how school counselors navigate preparation, systemic inequities, and mental health challenges. Papers explore: (1) training gaps in supporting Black students’ career development; (2) intersections of disciplinary practices, mental health, and suicide prevention for Black youth; (3) identity development for Black male student-athletes; (4) professional learning communities advancing STEM counseling capacity; and (5) the post-pandemic systemic challenges counselors face. Collectively, these studies highlight opportunities for innovative preparation and systemic supports to strengthen equitable counselor practices.
