Session Type: Structured Poster Session
This structured poster session explores reimagining K-12 disciplinary literacy instruction through three interconnected themes: innovative pedagogical approaches, systemic implementation, and transformative frameworks. The session features research investigating multimodal and multilingual strategies including metalanguage in mathematics, embodied science learning through movement, and culturally responsive writing instruction that enhance student engagement and access. Policy-level presentations examine state implementation strategies and disability-inclusive practices that challenge traditional approaches. Theoretical contributions explore asset-based frameworks that leverage students' cultural and communicative repertoires as foundations for disciplinary learning. Collectively, these presentations demonstrate how disciplinary literacy can be transformed across mathematics, science, history, and language arts contexts by moving beyond narrow academic language conceptions to embrace innovative approaches that honor student diversity while supporting rigorous academic learning.
