Session Type: Symposium
Across educational spaces where communities of Color have been historically marginalized and silenced, literacies of resistance have become necessary tools for expressions of genius and care for our communities to thrive. This symposium (re)imagines the future of literacies as healing practices rooted in joy, love, and liberation. Papers center the restorative literacies of youth, undergraduate students, and Practitioners of Color across K-16, through storytelling, participatory, and critical ethnographic methodologies, revealing counterstorytelling, multimodal expressions, and collective meaning-making as acts of resistance against erasure. Together, these papers offer a vision of what becomes possible when cultura, community, and resistance are centered, where we can develop opportunities to (re)shape educational futures towards healing, justice, and love.
