Whose Modes Matter? Creating Robust, Peer-Reviewed Publishing Pathways for Multimodal Scholars

Fri, April 10, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 501A

Session Type: Working Group Roundtable

Abstract

The objective of this working group roundtable is to pursue an inquiry critical to multimodal scholarship: How do we preserve trustworthiness and credibility of our multimodal data collection, reduction, analysis, and transcription processes within print-based publishing constraints? Four individual presentations will be shared: overviewing landscapes of multimodal publication, maintaining editorship of a multimodal journal, exploring epistemological and methodological tensions of publishing multimodal research in print-centric journals, and detailing constraints of publishing visuals. We endeavor to construct a space where multimodal scholars can collectively develop a research agendas and support systems to sustain our research in institutionally-recognized ways, hopeful that we can both problematize landscape of multimodal publication and develop paths toward future collaboration and robust publication of multimodal research.
