Session Type: Symposium
In alignment with AERA’s 2026 theme—Unforgetting Histories and Imagining Futures—this symposium explores teacher residency as a transformative model for reimagining equity, excellence, and sustainability in educator preparation. Presenters will share innovative practices addressing persistent challenges, including preparing bilingual teachers, sustaining district-university partnerships through school leaders, and expanding residency models in rural and underserved communities. The session brings together voices from five teacher preparation programs in distinct Texas communities. Rather than offering a single model, the symposium highlights localized strategies and leadership practices that respond to community needs while informing broader efforts in the field. Together, this symposium offers a vision for the future of teacher education rooted in justice, collaboration, and context-responsive innovation.
