Are There Stages to This? The Case For (and Against) Research-Practice Partnership Developmental Trajectories

Wed, April 8, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 515A

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

The promise of research-practice partnerships (RPPs) to transform education research, practice, and policy hinges on the intentional involvement of the local community: if they are to have impact, RPPs must adapt to reflect their unique contexts. Consequently, a single developmental trajectory to describe an RPP’s evolution is unlikely to exist. If true, this makes it harder to know where to start, whether one is “on track”, or how to anticipate challenges. At the same time, anecdotal evidence suggests distinct phases of the work, although these have not been widely established. In this structured poster session, we explore the possibility of underlying RPP developmental trajectories through a moderated debate anchored by three distinct lenses: RPP practice, evaluation, and theory.
