Encuentros, Pláticas, y Testimonios for Imagining New Visions of Early Childhood Research

Fri, April 10, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 301A

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium follows up on a 2024 AERA workshop on dilemmas of community-based participatory research by presenting illustrations from five U.S.-focused projects spanning participatory evaluation of a municipal ECE initiative; photovoice exploration of immigrant Latine families’ resistance to global forces by reclaiming historical knowledge; culturally- and linguistically-responsive ECE higher education research-practice partnership; photo-elicited storytelling about everyday math, and engaged QuantCRT analysis of inequities in ECE compensation. The session is grounded in plática methodology, a Chicana feminist approach that alloys the personal-political, emotional, intellectual, and convivial-historical as essential to “unforgetting histories and imagining futures.” Towards this end, attendees will be engaged in dialogue about how these studies relate to their own work and to imagining new futures for early childhood research.
