Session Type: Symposium
Teaching in tenuous times requires intentional and impervious courage for teachers and teacher educators alike. This symposium presents critical research reflecting innovative approaches toward teaching and teacher education explicitly centering intersectionality and interdisciplinarity in racial justice teaching. We share research that: 1) Highlights community-based theatre and performance pedagogy for racial justice teaching; 2) Centers the teaching and learning experiences of teacher participants at a racial justice teaching institute; 3) Examines the co-development of racial literacy modules for teacher/leaders in clinical practice; and 4) Details the reciprocal learning of school/community partners toward racial justice. Collectively, our symposium amplifies unconventional ways of doing teacher education “in the wake” against and through the firestorm that is white supremacy.
